The company was born in 2009, along with founder Javier Goyeneche’s two sons.

“I wanted to create a truly sustainable fashion brand and I believed the most sustainable thing to do was to stop using natural resources in a careless way to ensure those of the next generation.”

Javier received the 2020 Social Innovators of the Year award from the Schwab Foundation for revolutionizing the fashion industry and leading change towards a sustainable future.

He believes it’s time for change, for us to take better care of our planet, especially where fashion is concerned,

“Fashion is one of the largest consumer goods industries in the world and the second most pollutant. I believe the time when fashion was just about looking good is over. More than ever it has to be about doing what is right and feeling good about it.”

As a Certified B Corp they want to do business that’s good for people and the planet by making more thoughtful, future-thinking decisions. Their goal is to reach zero carbon emissions by 2030 while working to maintain their standards for sustainability, innovation, quality and timeless design as a sign of their durability and responsibility.

In 2015, ECOALF embarked on its most ambitious project: Upcycling the Oceans, a global adventure that will help eliminate marine debris from the bottom of the oceans thanks to the support of fishermen. At the current rate, in 2050 there would be more plastic than fish in the oceans!

He believes that recycling could be a viable solution if a new generation of recycled products were of the same quality and design as the best non-recycled.
