Framework for Responsible Impact

We've always known the type of company we wanted to create and operate. Everybody involved has to be on the same wavelength and share a similar vision and values. Initiatives related to health and mental health awareness, animal welfare, children, women's empowerment and social justice will be the first to get our time, energy and attention (and in some cases, money).

According to Forbes magazine, kindness is no longer optional in today’s business world. Companies are increasingly being judged by their actual behavior versus what they claim. In this context, kindness is related to how considerate and responsive they are to the needs of others.

The Kindness Criteria

For years AKH followed a simple process to help us decide which brands to bring into the store. Over time we refined and standardized it, so now it's an invaluable guide to assess the minimum ethical standards a brand must meet before we’ll carry it.

Part 1: The Awareness Audit

We begin with an aerial view of a company. This includes taking a closer look at their website and business community interaction, for starters. We're looking for key information in the following six areas:

  1. Mission and values
  2. Give back initiatives
  3. Community activity
  4. Sustainable practices
  5. Ethical sourcing and conduct
  6. Public transparency and accountability

Part 2:  The Deep Dive

We really go deep here. This is where the conversation begins about intentionally curating a partnership that feels authentic, inspired and aligned. Every brand we introduce becomes a natural extension of our vision, not just an addition to our shelves.
